How a trip to nowhere 🏝 reinforced the importance of reliability

Hey Courage Creators!

I’ve just returned from a blissful week away at Berkeley River Lodge, 102 nautical miles from Kununurra in the amazing East Kimberley.

I honestly can’t stop raving about this place, the people, wildlife and country. It was energising, mesmerizing, educational and totally relaxing.

First up, we managed to truly fulfil our ongoing quest to regularly unplug; Berkeley is inaccessible by road – only by air or sea is possible!

Adam is such a good cook at home (me: I could eat a shoe out of a slow cooker!) so, understandably, he really prizes a high standard of food when we go away. Berkeley totally delivered on that front (seriously, among everything else, there’s a chocolate brownie that I will continue to dream about for the rest of my life).

We did every available tour and let me tell you: Every. Single. Guide was reliably knowledgeable, fun, keen to share their vast experience and engaged us at whatever level suited us, whether we were on a hike, gone fishing, learning about aboriginal paintings and stories, riding a helicopter or cruising the river (even in croc-infested waters 🐊).

Yes, we expected a lot from this one holiday. And although I was relaxing, I couldn’t not notice how this remote resort, staffed with the most awesome diverse people serving potentially very demanding guests, was in no way an “accidently” high performing team.

They were reliable and that built trust – super fast (coincidentally the topic I’m delving into with you over the next couple of weeks).

I mean, when you’ve been there five minutes, and not just the bar staff but the cleaners know your name – that’s impressive! And when they said, “ask us for anything” they really meant it. I honestly thought: “mmm can they really deliver on that for 40+ people at all times?” So, when I finally did take them up on this offer with a request: “Could I please have an almond chocolate milkshake? I know it’s not on the menu and its not kitchen hours but is it possible..?”

Well, it arrived, personally delivered by the chef, along with three homemade macarons and a chocolate(!) I got the same amazing service when I asked for a different pillow and if they could please “talk to the fish so that Adam, my partner, could catch a barra on his birthday?” The first request came in seconds, the other well, that’s another story.

As you might imagine, my Trip Advisor review couldn’t have been more positive ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Why?  Because I totally trust this resort to deliver for any guests I refer, again and again, because they are RELIABLE.

So now that I’ve set that scene, let’s get onto my latest 15 minute video webinar: Reliability (Part I) where I cover:

  • Why reliability is so important to building trust?
  • Where do you think you’re reliable? What do you consistently deliver well?
  • Where do other people see you being reliable?
  • What trips up your reliability? (What do you need to watch out for? Where do you need to make changes?)

I’ll be back soon to share the second part of this “reliability” webinar topic with you.

Until then, enjoy and…
