About LifeStar®

What's a LifeStar?

LifeStar by Sue Johnston is an evidence-based model through which you can view your life, assessing the five points of the LifeStar® to uncover your own personal blend and balance that works best for you.

With this awareness, you can consciously choose to transform your world.

The results will enable you to hold clearer boundaries to prioritise your health, lift your energy to have impact at work and create presence to really connect with colleagues, loved ones and yourself.

The program includes 3 x live online interactive sessions on Wellbeing Advocacy and how to use a coaching approach to hold wellbeing conversations (2 hours each).

It assists participants to extend their capacity into workplace wellbeing advocacy to:

  • Act as a model and inspire others.
  • Hold informal spaces for others to do their own work and blend sustainable LifeStar® activities and language into their daily work and lives.
  • Provide a preventative mechanism with encouragement to focus on wellness activities – those which are a match for them (ie: not prescriptive) and which build a personal sense of improved wellbeing.
  • Facilitate opportunities to speak up before an adverse effect or crisis (eg: burnout stress, anxiety, work complications, presenteeism, absenteeism, staff turnover arising from psychosocial hazards and/or distress).

Not just for leaders, the Wellbeing Advocacy module is for those working in the health safety environment, wellbeing / employee contact/grievance roles, and team members in any area and at any level of your organisation that want to lift their wellbeing at work.

To get the most out of this module, LIFT also recommends that Wellbeing Advocacy participants meet these criteria:

  • They know the organisation.
  • They are familiar with LifeStar® language and its concepts; they know their own LifeStar® and the process involved in each of the LifeStar® 5 points.
  • They understand what supports and what gets in the way of living your LifeStar® and, or wellbeing conversations.
  • They have a desire to learn how – and have the capacity following skill development – to hold safe and healthy spaces for conversation.
  • They are curious, can stay out of judgement, seek and receive others’ perspectives, and build their emotional agility.
  • They have a genuine interest in self-care practices and activities that build wellbeing.

Wellbeing is *everything*

I’ve learned so much.

I’ve learned so much about myself as well because it it’s sort of what sits in the background. And when you've got a busy life, you don't even think about it. When you're actually in a position where you've gone into third space and think, “right, let's look at me,” it's good to have the opportunity because otherwise another week goes by on the hamster wheel and you just don't do it –these sessions made me do it.

So that's been massive for me. It's made me self-reflect. I think it's been, really enlightening.

Cherelle Witney headshot

Even though it's got a gentle approach, I think it's extremely powerful.

I think it really impacts you if you take it on board, you open up to it, and you want to let it in. I think it's extremely effective.

It brings a real awareness to those different parts so, you can always think: “Oh, I need to exercise more. I need to eat better, or I need to do this… I want to do that…”

But this actually breaks it down. It's quite simple. It's quite basic. It's not rocket science, but it's broken down into an easy way to understand it and a friendly way of doing it. I think it's great.

Cherelle Witney headshot

It’s opened my eyes really. It’s guided me to the path of realising what I need to do, that it's in my hands.

It's definitely pushed me to recognise and get rid of blocks which I wouldn't have done without LifeStar®. It's encouraged me to do something about it instead of just thinking about it.

I think awareness is a big thing. It’s helped me to become aware of where I'm at and, where I'm lacking in this star. I've always tried to be a big achiever but breaking it down and realising that those small achievements really need to be celebrated as well is something that was a big eye opener for me.

I've thoroughly enjoyed it and meeting [with other participants] as well as it being a massive positive for me. I think all of it has created a lot of joy and clarity in where I'm going and what I'm doing. Thank you.

Cherelle Witney headshot

LifeStar® has helped me even though I'm not quite there yet.

But it's helped me really step back and reflect and go: “What is it that I'm trying to achieve here?”

And even though you are crazy busy on a constant, it's allowed me the time and space to go: “What do you need to achieve? How do we, how do we create this balance? How do you make a change?”

Cherelle Witney headshot

It's good and I feel a lot clearer after doing it.

LifeStar® showed me that just giving yourself credit for the little bits and pieces that you're doing and slotting them into those categories is actually quite easy and probably quite broad across them all, once I realised that “Achieve” may not look exactly like you think it should look.

The check-ins will be good because it just means that you can go back and get in contact with [other participants].

Cherelle Witney headshot

It's a fantastic tool that I can incorporate into my awareness and adjust my actions to try and re-balance.

I'm aware when my star is out of balance, so I can work on the parts where I'm low.

At a minimum, it can create an awareness of wellbeing and looking after ourselves in the workplace.

Cherelle Witney headshot

I’ve really achieved a lot mentally and emotionally.

I think the key takeaway for me is gratitude and just [being] really grateful for these sessions. I hope that we can continue in some way, shape or form. Thank you.

Cherelle Witney headshot

Life's tricky when you're a working mum and trying to juggle all the things.

But I do think that LifeStar® definitely has made me more aware of where I should be at with it in a different way.
