The fine balance of self-accountability

Although our LIFT Collective is taking a big break to Reflect, Rest and Refuel from 16 December 2021 through to 31 January 2022 (with the exception of our monthly executive leadership coaching programs) I’ve pre-recorded our regular Little LIFTs to make sure I can stay connected with you.

How’re you going?

Ok, let’s try that again… Stop, breathe, and now tell me: how are you really going?

For every client we’ve worked with this year (and for us here at LIFT), it’s been a busy 2021!

Yet there are many types of busy.

What’s been your type? Meeting growing needs, expanding services, adapting business direction, workforce & HR management in the context of Covid?

Pressure to be agile, to problem solve and innovate as demand changes, redefining how and WHY we are working in the roles we are? Working without time to refuel — you or your team — or something else…?

2021 has felt crazy!

At times we’ve questioned everything, including ourselves. So, what can we do differently in 2022?

To reference Dr Darria Long in her TEDx talk: “What if we let go of being crazy-busy and focus on being ready-busy?”

If we want to explore this concept further, this is the “Little LIFT” to do it.

That’s right: Part 2 of Accountability (the “A” in our “BRAVING” acronym that makes up the (Re) building Trust Series) is here.

Part 1 was all about the Accountability in others — with a big focus on the (usually dreaded!) performance conversation, and how to ask, not tell, so you don’t have to fear these anymore.

Part 2 is all about Accountability in ourselves; returning to trusting ourselves, especially when everything around us feels uncertain.

And guess what? It’s NOT about driving yourself harder and it’s NOT about taking responsibility for everything.

(Neither are sustainable or self-compassionate).

There’s a fine balance going on here.

What it IS about: owning what we’ve done and our part in any given situation, realising that we can’t own it all as our fault because that’s just not true, possible, or effective… in fact it’s a bit selfish.

Yes selfish, cos that would mean the rich learning from any situation would only belong to you!

In my short video at the top of this post, I’m sharing how you can generate self-accountability in an authentic and realistic way that builds trust within yourself and in turn, builds (and rebuilds) trust with others.

I talk about boundaries (again because this one’s SO important for everything!), the power of apology, culture, personal values, diversity and more.

Enjoy and…

PS: Check out my new practical online conflict course, Braving the Conflict Arena, with Dr Samantha Hardy, now available through liftps.com.

You can get 20% off the full course registration (just use coupon code: CONFLICT20 at checkout) but only until 31 December 2021.

The Christmas / New Year period is a great quiet time to study or maybe the opposite – it’s a busy time to desperately seek these solutions!

If you’re a senior leader and think your team would benefit from this self-paced online course (they totally will!), email us now about group registrations, including group live Q&A’s with Sam and I, and overall group discounts.

Just imagine coming back to the office in 2022, confident to engage in conflict!
